Shri Virupaksh Mahadev Temple
DirectionThe historic Shri Virupaksha Mahadev Temple is located in Bilpank village, about 18 km from the district headquarters. The temple is a unique example of the combined architectural styles of the Paramar, Gurjar, and Chalukya (Gujarat) dynasties. It consists of a sanctum (Garbhagriha), an antechamber (ardha-mandapa), and an assembly hall (sabha mandapa). A Mauryan-era pillar located in the sabha mandapa serves as evidence of its construction during that period. Four smaller shrines are located at the corners of the main temple. The temple was renovated in Samvat 1198 by Raja Siddharaj Jaysingh of Gujarat while returning after conquering the Malwa region. The temple stands on 64 pillars, and it is believed that no one can count them accurately.
